Bismillah...

Welcome to our blog.  Rainbow and I are happy that you found our special hide-a-way.

My Family
I am Salma, a mother of 4...parenting 3. I am from Jamaica, but grew up in Canada.

Guy from the Other side of the Fence/Baba is now finding out that he's not the only male voice in the house

Iman is the oldest. She serves as "creative" daughter in all things, and she is my blog editor.

After spending years being the baby, Amira is now the Middle Madness in our home

Hussein is our Angel Baby- he passed away shortly after birth in 2009

Rainbow is our Rainbow child- born in October 2010
 Why I'm Here
Life after loss changed my whole family. You can read a bit about it here. My blog is my outlet. My days are up and down, but I'm happy to be where I am, know what I know, and understand the importance of humility and grace.
What I love to do
Sometimes I have to remember to catch my breath and just enjoy life and count my blessings. I believe in the philosophy of un-schooling, however, I try not to put my foot in one specific circle. I like to take the cue from my children, they are great teachers. I don't think it is ever too early to begin teaching children, thus, this blog stems from my commitment and love of teaching and watching my children grow.

I find that I learn the most from watching Rainbow, and trying to keep up with him. Come watch me make sense of our journey as I prepare him for an Islamic life filled with cultural differences, languages and various teaching techniques. You will find resources and articles written by me. You will also find recipes, product reviews, educational links for your young one, and fun videos to play and share.

This blog is only one aspect of my teaching, and it will grow and change as Rainbow grows. Unschooling means being very hands-on, thus, my computer time will be very limited, but if you have questions or comments, I will be happy to answer them.

Projects
Rainbow will be very busy in 2012, inshaAllah.  The Bucket List Project here is a way to keep track of the little milestones, as well as creating fun adventures for the family. Want to join in? Link up and share what your little one will be doing, inshaAllah.

  1. Wow! I am intrigued by your story and your life, saddened by your loss and hopeful for what's ahead of you. I am a school counselor in a public high school and am fascinated by the idea of unschooling. Looking forward to following you. Thanks for sharing and opening up my world a little bit more.

  2. HI Lynn,

Sorry I missed your comment. Thanks for your message. Unschooling is a lot of fun for us, but sadly I don't get to write about a lot of the things that we do. I hope to share more as Rainbow grows.
