Bismillah...

Last year on this date a group of specialists, and nurses, baba and I scrambled to bring this little guy into the world. I'd been sitting in the hospital for days waiting for something to happen; and we knew that SOMETHING would happen.

When I got down to delivery we weren't sure if he would make it. When he finally made his entrance into the world, we waited for the news. SubhanaAllah, he was a fighter, and 3 days in the NICU was better than what we had expected.

The truth is, I don't remember exactly what time he was born.
I don't know who took him out of my womb. I haven't been able to say off the top of my head how much he weighed, how long he was, or if he even cried at birth.
I don't remember what he looked like for the first few hours, or where they took him.

But hey, I do know that I have been blessed and that's enough for me.

Alhamdullelah, I have had 4 seasons of a precious Rainbow...
                                     Today...

I couldn't ask for more.

Special Note: Last week I closed my old blog. I left a special note for my lovely friends who read about my many ups and downs.

If you didn't get the message...I want to thank YOU. YOU who followed our journey, and supported me in my grief with Hussein, and gave me words of encouragement in my difficult pregnancy with Rainbow. YOU who always had something positive to say to lift my spirits. THANK YOU!

Thank you for helping me celebrate the birth of my Rainbow, and always sending us love. I cannot believe that a negative experience could bring so much positivity into my life. I love you all so very much, and Rainbow is a very lucky little guy to have so many aunties out there.

xoXO

Bismillah..

This week Rainbow and I want to share another great book that we read. Spot Fait un Gateau  (French Edition) by Eric Hill was a fun book to read, and it's all about Food.

What is the story all about?

It's a special day for Spot. Today he will bake a special surprise for his father.

First he must go to the supermarket and buy some goodies.

Then he must bake, and help his mother clean up.

...when his father comes home he will be very pleased.

Rainbow and I have read this book many times...he loves it, and so do I.  We count (check the calendar), we look at all the colouful surprises, and we love to check out the food.

Spot Fait un Gateau has simple french words, and flaps that allow for interaction with your young reader.

This is a great book for story-time.

Did you read any books this week? Why don't you tell us about it.

Bismillah...

It's Monday, and that means it's my weekly update about Rainbow.
He is growing, mashaAllah. He is so steady on his feet, even jumping, that it is hard to believe that he has ONLY been walking for a month.

Toilet Training was so much easier in the summer. In the summer, he wore a diaper, and shorts in the house. Now with all the clothes that he has on (because it's cold), it's hard to stay focused on getting to the washroom, and to be honest, I can't blame him.

One thing that I am worried about is his weight. I think he is just growing tall, and he runs around a lot, but he is so thin. I am told that everything is okay, so I need to just stop worrying about it.
He is biting a bit more when I nurse, and I see a tooth coming up on the bottom, so I try to give him a break.

One strange thing is that he keeps taking my hand towel from the kitchen. It's a bright yellow one, and it is really soft, lol. I am just not sure if he sees it as a security type of blanket or it's just the bright yellow colour.
Also he is no longer afraid of the vacuum cleaner, so when it's turned off he usually goes over and tries to figure it out.
Now all we have to conquer is the washing machine, and elevators. He hates those.

What else?
I found a range of Arabic books...some are translated from popular books that we have read before (or) have in our library. That was a nice treat for him.
We also watched CARS in Arabic this week-end when baba was out. He is such a party pooper, he never watches Arabic shows with us.

I guess this is life with my Rainbow...

Hope you have a GREAT Monday, inshaAllah.

Najeeba's Rainbow aftethe Storm
Bismillah...

This is a special guest post by a fellow Angel and Rainbow mommy. As a tribute to Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, I am taking a spin on the subject by highlighting life after loss, or as Najeeba puts it, "after the storm...". There's so much to say about Najeeba, however, I'll let you read about our connection here.

Here's her take on life with her Rainbow ~ Aisha
I’m Najeeba, a Muslim Indian (Keralite/Malayalee) and mother of a rainbow baby girl. The thing I love most on earth is my Aisha. Aisha was named by her father who is also a Muslim Indian. We live in Dubai, UAE. I have been in India for almost one year (went there for my delivery), with my parents and in-laws, and recently returned to Dubai two weeks ago.

About Aisha
I have so much to say. She is a pleasant girl, exploring the world around her. She was born (actually, ripped from my womb) on November 1st, and on that day Keralites/Malayalees also celebrate our Kerala ‘birthday. As a muslim I don’t plan to participate in the celebrations.

Our life -From India to UAE.
I was nervous about the shift from India to UAE. It is monsoon season in India, with rain pouring down 24 hours a day all week and in UAE, the blistering sun is in its full making the a/c full time on. A total change of climate. But Aisha has done well. Another change she felt was the absence of her grandparents. Back in India, she was pampered both by my parents and her dad’s parents.
In India, the first thing she wanted in the morning was a ride with her granddad.
In UAE, she has only me and I have only her, until her dad and uncle get home from the office. When they are at home, she doesn’t want me, lolz. Aisha is very social, especially with gents. In fact she likes tall men so that she gets a higher and wider view of her surroundings when they take her.
I want Aisha to grow up to be a good educated Muslim. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, the person who kills MacBeth is "a man not born of a woman".  MacDuff was ripped from his mother’s womb. I wish Aisha also lives to destroy some Macbeths. I know I’ll have to suffer a lot if such things happen, but I hope she will get to Jannah where her brother is waiting for her.
After November 1st, the longest day of my life, I think the days and months and even the year has become shorter! I sometime wonder if a  day really has 24 hours in it. Nevertheless, I am happy to have my Rainbow baby,

Please also read about Najeeba's Angel baby here.

Najeeba also writes on these sites:
http://fotosofnajeeba.blogspot.com/

Rainbows are always beautiful aren't they? Aisha has a beautiful spirit. I am so happy to have been a part of Najeeba's journey in welcoming her precious Rainbow after the long storm. May Allah bless her family, and guide Aisha to be the best Muslimah *Ameen*

Bismillah...

What are the odds that women, one from the East, the other from the West would become connected by 2 pregnancies? I am not very bright when it comes to statistics, but I would say that Najeeba and I are rare.

In 2008, I found her blog and contacted her via email. We became pregnant a month apart...we sent few notes back and forth, then we drifted (not knowing the other was pregnant). Little did we know that our worlds would change with the birth of our sons.

On May 13th 2009 her son passed away tragically.

On June 13th 2009 my son passed away tragically.

A few months later, we found each other again.

We shared stories about our experiences.
Our babies had died of the same "rare" cause.

We both wanted to have another child.

We bonded.

In March 2010 I got a BFP. I was nervous to tell her, because I had felt so sad when I thought there was no chance of getting pregnant...I didn't want to break her heart. When I finally told her, she was silent for a few days. I thought she was heart-broken...not a chance...she was pregnant also.

My Rainbow was due on November 15th, and she was due at the beginning of December. SubhanAllah, I thought it was so amazing, I questioned how it could be that we were so connected. I was overjoyed.

When Rainbow was born in October instead of November, I thought the bond was broken...the babies would not be born in November and December (as their brothers had been born May & June).

SubhanAllah, another surprise, Najeeba gave birth in November instead of December.
Amazingly, we had both been hospitalized and forced to deliver our Rainbows via emergency c-sections because the babies were in danger from (take a guess), the same umbilical cord issues that we had before.

How close we were the first time, and how close we came the second time to losing our precious babies. Only Allah knows.

I don't know what it is, but I would have to say it's pretty amazing, wouldn't you?
East and West...2 beautiful Angels...2 beautiful Rainbows.

Tomorrow, as a tribute to a great Rainbow mom, I will share a post from Najeeba about life with her Rainbow baby, inshaAllah.

Please stop by and read it, inshaAllah.

Bismillah...

We read another great book for the book of the week, and we want to share it with you.

Lola at the Library by Anna McQuinn was a great book to share with Rainbow, because Rainbow spends a lot of time at the library as well.

What is this book about?

Lola (like Rainbow) loves Tuesdays because that is the day she and her mother goes to the local library.  The walk to the library is an adventure on its own...
Lots of books and fun (like storytime) awaits her, and she loves to participate in the activities at the library.

The best part for Lola is returning with her books and sharing them with her mom.

We loved Lola at the Library because it's all about books and reading AND having fun. The pictures are cute and bright, and I try as much as possible to read stories with characters from various ethnicities with Rainbow; AND, having a girl as the main character is also important to me, because I want him to read about and see girls in major roles in his stories.

Also, I notice that Rainbow loves animals (or at least seeing them in pictures), and just wanted to look at the little dog in the story.

It was a fun read, and I guess it made me feel a bit sentimental (lol).

Did you read any interesting books this week? Tell us about it.

Bismillah...
I hope you're all having a wonderful Monday, and I hope the rest of the week is just as great inshaAllah. Okay, it's Monday...the end of the day and I just realized that I did not schedule this week's posts as I thought...sorry!

What are we up to?
Rainbow is almost 1 year old. He's been sleeping through playtime, and playing through sleeptime. This means...we have not made it to any of our playgroups last week. I hope this changes soon. It also means that I am up until 1 am on most nights and continues to be naughty.

Potty/toilet training is up and down as usual, and as it gets colder, and I have him in sleepers (full body suit), it is not fun trying to get him to the washroom.

Learning has been fun, as usual. We spend a lot of time on his special site, and just hanging out, outside in our tent. We've been learning a lot together, and with the sisters, and even baba has been putting in playtime, watching some videos and reading...YES, I said reading stories with Rainbow.

Now that Rainbow walks, he is a disaster. When we went to a restaurant lastweek, he nearly destroyed the place. I vowed to NEVER take him out again, lol.

I am surprised to say that Baba has been speaking more Arabic with Rainbow, although I think Rainbow doesn't take it seriously because baba is always telling stories about ducks and Rabbits, and other things that just make Rainbow laugh.

So there's my update for the week. Next week Rainbow will be one year old, inshaAllah.

If you don't already know, I am giving away a Diego 3-in-1 potty. The contest ends on Friday (21st), so enter if you haven't already.

XoXo

Bismillah...
As I was preparing to write this post Rainbow and I were having a very bad potty training day. Rainbow is 11 months old. We have been training for 4 months now. We were doing well before the move, and then Ramadan came and it threw me off, thus, throwing off the whole system we had in place.

I am the only one right now who does toilet time with Rainbow because I am the one who is at home. As I said before, our days are up and down, and Rainbow usually dictates what kind of day I will have. Yesterday I cleaned up a huge puddle after he got up from the potty before he was finished. Later on, while I was setting the bath he peed on the bed-skirt (I only figured out what it was hours later). We didn't have a great day.

Rainbow has been using a his Go Diego Go 3 in 1 potty since we started training in June. Before we moved, and he was younger, we used the seat cover on the big toilet (it just worked better for me) since he didn't get the concept of sitting on the potty, and believe me, potty time is not the same with boys as it is with girls.
NOW that he is walking around, we don't have a problem with him getting to the potty, although sometimes, he ups and runs away before we get started, lol.

So goes the journey of our potty/toilet training.

    Bismillah...

I am linking up with Muslim Mummy today for a dose of Friday Wisdom.

I really don't like ignorance and I want to teach my kids that having an open mind doesn't mean that they belittle themselves, it means that they allow themselves to see the world from a different perspective.

    ...here's my thought:

"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

Warning: This post could be a trigger for anyone who has lost a child, or those who love and support someone who has lost a child, or dealing with infertility.

Following the theme of Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month, a dear friend  L is sharing her thoughts on her experience with what she describes as the "painful invisibility of early loss".

Note from L: Salma I used to feel stupid talking about a child that was only known to us from sonograms. Sure I felt her kick and move around, but it wasn't something I could share with anyone else, especially M (hubby). Now that I speak about her, I don't feel that invisible thread tying me to everything that is negative and dark. You know what I know now? Her life  was mapped out by parents who who knew nothing about everything. Life is a journey, you can only go so far, and it's unfair to map out lives that may never be lived. It's in God's hands.

    If you Knew

People don't ask, in fact they never know where I've been
the little hands I never held, beautiful face I've never seen

You won't know because I haven't told you
how one minute changed my life left me hollow and confused

She can't be here because it wasn't meant to be
how this could happen it just never occurred to me

You see I had a child once
just once I had a child
    Now
    I said the dreaded words
    had
    child
    once

No, that's not what I meant

    What I mean is
well you didn't ask - in fact you don't know where I've been
or what these words could truly mean.

    ~L

About L: L tried for 6 years to have a child and finally conceived in 2008.  At 6 months into her pregnancy she felt that something wasn't right...she had extreme nausea and cramping. A sonogram showed no real sign of distress, she was sent home. Hours later she was back at the hospital with the same symptoms but worse. Efforts to find the source of the problem and save her daughter was unsuccessful.
L and her hubby are going through the process of adopting  G, a " soon to be five year old darling", (her words). L wrote the poem 2 months after the death of her child.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts L, and I especially like the fact that you have decided to let God be the navigator in your life.

    Bismillah...
Welcome to another Book of the Week. My apologies for not sharing a new theme for the week, we have been so busy, and it was also Thanksgiving week-end.
This week Rainbow and I read Comme tout le monde a story about potty training.

    What's the book about?
Well, you all know that Rainbow is toilet training. We have been on this mission since 7 months of age. Rainbow is reluctant, and resistant on some days, while on other days he does great. We have read a few potty stories A Potty for Me!: A Lift-the-Flap Instruction Manual
and Once Upon a Potty -- Boy, My Big Boy Potty, but never in French. If you want another fun potty book (that's in English), you can also read Potty by Leslie Patricelli. This is a funny book about potty training linked with animal friends.

Comme tout le monde is a great book about going to the toilet. The message is simple; whether you are a tiny mouse, a Green Frog, a Huge elephant, or a little boy, we all have different bottoms, AND we all go to the washroom.

Funny pictures. Easy to read text. Rainbow and I loved it.

Did you read any book this week? Tell us about it.

    Now for the other news.

To celebrate the on-going and {fun} potty training journey that I have been on with Rainbow, we will be hosting a FREE Go Diego Go potty give-a-way sponsored by Ginsey Home Solutions starting on Friday for the Feature of the Week.

So, come back on Friday to enter the give-a-way. Hey, come back even of you don't want to enter the give-a-way.
